“A tavola con Gio Ponti” exhibition, ALCA Museum, Maglie

Cintya Concari and Roberto Marcatti of RMA STUDIO in Milan, together with Salvatore Licitra of Gio Ponti Archives, are responsible for staging and curating the beautiful exhibition entitled "A tavola con Gio Ponti. Gli angeli apparecchiano" (At the table with Gio Ponti. Angels lay the table) currently taking place at the ALCA Museum of Paleontology in Maglie until September 30. Building on their strong relationship with the territory of Apulia, where they have organized exhibitions for the past ten years, so much so as to receive the Premio del Mercatino del Gusto prize as Ambassadors of Apulian Culture, the curators put forward a plan to local institutions for an exhibition dedicated to one of the most important architects of the twentieth century, who created one of his most important works in Apulia: the Cathedral of the Mother of God in Taranto.
Seeking new visions and connections between the ancient and the contemporary, the exhibition is being staged in the evocative rooms of the ALCA Museum of Paleontology in Maglie, one of the hundred most innovative museums in Italy, and is presented by the Polo Biblio-Museale di Lecce with the Apulia Region, the Municipality of Maglie and the Mercatino del Gusto association, with the sponsorship of ADI and the Orders of Architects of Lecce and Milan. The exhibition interacts with the prehistoric finds in the museum, bringing the designer's vision to the attention of the public through the exhibited objects designed by Gio Ponti. Emphasizing the continuity between tradition and innovation, the shapes, colors and decorations of the objects linked to the daily ritual of the table and to conviviality aim to make the Italian architect/designer and his attention to craftsmanship and to traditional Mediterranean culture known to the public.
“Gio Ponti’s designs”, say the curators “contribute to emphasizing the diversities in our society and the need to express them through design culture”.
The exhibition is complemented by a catalog with important contributions from designers and theorists.
