Tallinn Architecture Biennale. Recycling Socialism.
The theme of this year’s Tallinn Architecture Biennale, TAB 2013, organised by the Estonian Centre of Architecture is “Recycling Socialism”. An opportunity to find out more about Estonia and its architectural scene.

TAB carries on the concept of the 1990s Nordic-Baltic Architecture Triennale, adding an innovative touch to the programme that fosters the local architectural culture as well as promoting international networking.

From 4 to 30 September 2013, TAB 2013 is expecting visitors from all over the world and has adopted the theme “Recycling Socialism”, proposed by the team from b210 that won the competition called to decide the event’s curators.

Along the same lines as the Venice Biennale, the socialist architectural heritage is a heartfelt issue in the Baltic countries. Tallinn Architecture Biennale aspires to integrate the historical socialist architecture into the contemporary city, focusing on what can be recycled from the old buildings to rediscover ideas and projects, and work out how to go about recycling them for the future.

TAB 2013 has been broken down into four main events – the Symposium, the Curators’ Exhibition, the Vision Exhibition and the Architecture Schools’ Exhibition. There are also lots of additional events, including discussions, films, guided tours and many other opportunities to explore the town of Tallinn and find out more about the Estonian architecture studios.
