Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design. Moscow.

Strelka Institute is a multidisciplinary centre and creative networking space, composed of young specialists with backgrounds in architecture, design and social sciences. Their goal is to design the world of the future.



During our stay in Moscow to participate in MosBuild, where Floornature was Media Partner, we dropped into the Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design.



This institute is located on the island of Bolotny, very close to the Kremlin and not far from the famous Gorky Park; it occupies the garages in the grounds of a former chocolate factory called “Red October”.



The institute comprises four studios, a lecture hall, a media library, a large courtyard amphitheatre and the Strelka Bar whose rooftop terrace provides breathtaking views over Moscow in Summer. A must if you’re in Moscow!



Strelka Institute is a non-profit organisation whose 9-month postgraduate programme, offered in English adopts a “holistic” cross-disciplinary approach. These programmes explore the themes of global cities and possible new solutions and are an invitation for students to actively plan the future.



This year’s theme is “Agents of Change”. A study of changes in modern-day Moscow and other global cities. The agents of change are the people who can harness the power of their ideas, actions and events to irreversibly change the world around them, and alter public perception.



The institute itself is a living example of putting proposed solutions into practice, being the first organisation in Russia to receive “Vitality Leaf” - Eco Office environmental certification in accordance with the ISO 14024 international environmental standard.
The Homepage of Strelka’s website flashes its purpose as an institute for urban critique, for collective fun but above all for a new, cross-disciplinary and global form of education.
