Social Beings the theme of Beirut Design Week 2015 Beirut Design Week began on 1 June and lots of events are being held in the Beirut Souks until Sunday 7 June, centred on this year's theme, “Social Beings”, nurturing relationships between people who can share skills and expertise as a tool for innovation.

The best of Lebanese and international design to see in Beirut during Beirut Design Week. For one week - from 1 June to 7 June - the capital of Lebanon turns into a great creative hub characterised by design as a tool to drive social and economic innovation and not just the creation of pretty objects. In the words of BDW director, Doreen Toutikian: “We believe in the value of design, which is far more than just aesthetics”.

Because Beirut Design Week focuses on relationships between people, a large network where everyone can share ideas and know-how, which also explains this year's theme, “Social Beings”.
We're all social beings and in addition to the virtual relations shaped by new digital technology and social media, real personal contact is still fundamental and is injected with new value.

There are 150 events in almost 100 locations in the design capital of the Middle East, where people can forge personal relations in such offerings as the international conference with speakers from Lebanon and from major global institutions, or the Dutch design exhibition, the Finnish design exhibition and two exhibitions that put the “social beings” theme into practice: “The Makers” that's all about digital fabrication and “Based in Beirut” introducing local, up-and-coming designers.

A great excuse for a trip to Beirut, where you can meet creative people and get to know more closely a bubbly city with a big heart.
