Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi, Australia. Sculpture by the Sea is one of the world’s biggest temporary outdoor sculpture exhibitions, in a truly unique setting: the Bondi Beach to Tamarama Beach coastal walk in Sydney, Australia. An incredibly photogenic event that brings art and the environment to the public eye.

Sculpture by the Sea took place in Bondi from 23 October to 9 November 2014, and was once again lauded by the general public, both for its exceptionally striking visual impact, with more than 100 sculptures exhibited by artists from Australia and abroad, on the 2 km-long coastal walk between Bondi Beach and Tamarama Beach in Sydney, and because of how much it involved visitors.

Since the first edition in 1997, David Handley’s brainchild has moved ahead in leaps and bounds and has even expanded to other locations. Now, in addition to Bondi Beach, another two locations – Cottesloe in Perth, Australia and Aarhus in Denmark – stage exhibitions to complete the panorama of outdoor sculptures.

One of the best things about the free-to-the-public event was the great response from young people. In addition to the guide for 5 to 11 year-olds, which included lots of dedicated activities, this year more than 2900 students and their teachers participated in the student education programme, leaving their classrooms to meet the artists and their artworks directly in the field. An interactive approach that was highly appreciated by all the parties involved, bringing the students closer to art and offering new creative ideas.

So Sculpture by the Sea confirmed its status as an event for the whole family in a unique natural setting, and as a platform to showcase sculptors from all over the world.
Save the date for the Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe in Perth, Australia, from 2 to 23 March 2015.
