Rosewood Mayakoba. A resort in the Riviera Maya, Mexico.

A lot has been said about the Mayans and their prophecies but not much about their land. Here, travellers can visit Mayan archaeological sites on the Yucatàn peninsula and swim in the crystal clear waters while staying in a luxury resort with the highest ecological standards.



The Rosewood Mayakoba resort, complete with Rainforest Alliance Certification, lies in one of the most stunning natural settings there is: the Riviera Maya on the Yucatán peninsula facing the second largest barrier reef in the world.



American architect firm, Three, designed the resort, which offers 128 suites, various restaurants and even a golf course and spa.





Only local materials like wood and limestone are used as a result of studies carried out by biologists, environmental engineers, architects and landscape planners.



The spa, which is physically separate from the complex, is built around a cenote, one of the famous freshwater wells typical of this area, where the Mayans also enjoyed its therapeutic benefits in their day.



Great care is also taken in the preservation of the wildlife and native flora in the Mayakoba resort, in keeping with the Rosewood group’s philosophy A Sense of Place®. Therefore, guests can go on an “EcoTour” around approx. 65 hectares of the resort, including the lagoon and the vast areas of the surrounding mangroves, an ecosystem with a precise function – to act as a hurricane buffer zone.
