Refurbishment working for sustainability. A project by A-001 Architectural Workshop. The Mexican architecture firm A-001 focuses on pre-existence an already existing building in order to create “Refurbished Living” through the ethical project of recycling existing resources. An example of this is the family home “House 3R”.

Land for building from scratch is becoming such a rarity in our evermore congested cities that it’s about time to start building from what is already there. In other words, propose new forms of life to what was there before by adapting it to the needs of our day and age.

This is the case of the project “Refurbished Living”, designed by Eduardo Gorozpe Fernández, head of studio A-001 Architectural Workshop.

Starting off with an in-depth study of the existing space this Mexican firm designs the new intended use based on the requirements of the future users and using the existing property to the full.

This method stands out for its inherent sustainability in that it recycles and reclaims resources that have already been in use for some time. In this way not only is the environmental impact of the whole work reduced but the client also gains considerable economic savings.

The result speaks for itself: House R3 is no less remarkable than if it had been built from scratch. It reflects the contemporary trends in architecture combined with the most advanced technology in the field of refurbishing. Refurbished Living is possible architectural alchemy working for the environment.
