PB/Studio: Althaus restaurant in Gdynia. Creating an image.
Polish architecture firm, PB/Studio worked with Filip Kozarski to design the Althaus restaurant. A project whose concept is based on Visual Marketing principles, setting the scene of this restaurant by playing with images rather than objects.

In Althaus, a Bavarian restaurant in the centre of Gdynia, Poland – an important seaport in the Bay of Gdañsk – we are treated to the warm, welcoming atmosphere commonly associated with the pubs of Bavaria.

And the architects from PB/Studio, the Polish firm located in nearby Sopot play on the images that people connect with that specific context: a rustic restaurant where you can drink beer and indulge in Bavarian cuisine.

Already, the exterior whets your appetite: there is a visual engagement between interior and exterior through the large windows, which are like store windows, where the customers turn into a living part of the backdrop, and put on a show for passersby.

The materials used – natural oak, bottle green and copper – provide a visual reference to traditional beer production. On the other hand, some of the interior design details like the calfskins, brickwork or white painted wood refer to its pastoral roots, so different from modern Gdynia.

The Althaus restaurant is a tangible example of the key condition of our times, where you live in an eternal present and where an image can be used to create new, bespoke realities as well as to set real moods, unleashing the fervent imagination of the viewer/consumer.
