Livegreenblog in Pietrasanta and Pisa, The City and The Water In the run-up to the September workshop “THE CITY AND THE WATER - Architecture, arts and self-construction experiences: the regeneration of the “Due Laghi” artisan area in Pietrasanta” Livegreenblog attended the visits to Pietrasanta and the keynote lecture by Spanish architect Santiago Cigureda in Pisa.

You all know how passionate we are about sustainable architecture, and how much we love art too. So when we can combine both of them, we are in seventh heaven!
This is what will be happening at the international workshop organised by DESTeC (Department of Energy, Systems, Territory and Construction Engineering), at the University of Pisa, the Municipality of Pietrasanta, and the Pietrasanta Centre of Visual Arts (CAV), in collaboration with the “I 2 Luoghi” art laboratory, to be held in September 2015 in Pietrasanta, Tuscany.

We were invited to visit the workshop zones – the artisan area of the Due Laghi – together with Santiago Cigureda, Seville-based architect who has been practising self-construction for years as a low-cost and sustainable design response to the needs of communities. We also attended his keynote lecture in Pisa on 13 March.

So, the workshop intends to take real action in the territory that can upgrade part of the urban fabric. Recovery that will come about thanks to the joint ideas of all the parties involved. So, in this case we’re talking about active upgrading, because the design stage will be followed by the actual onsite construction – to the benefit of the artists and artisans who work here, as well as to the community of Pietrasanta.

An idea that has attracted the attention of Fiandre, one of the companies that decided to sponsor the workshop: a great way of fielding its eco-active properties of the large Active slabs!
