The Architects Series - A documentary on Steven Holl Architects in live streaming

On October 29, the Iris Ceramica Group’s digital platform will live stream the 14th event in “The Architects Series", the series presented by the The Plan magazine for the group of companies which takes viewers behind the scenes of prominent architectural studios. Previously unpublished images and interviews with architects show “The Architects Series" viewers how great architectural studios operate and what projects they are currently working on. The new docu-film in the series focuses on Steven Holl Architects, the studio founded in 1977 by architect Steven Holl in New York. Recognised and appreciated all over the world, Steven Holl Architects’ projects range from urban masterplans and general planning to office and multi-purpose complexes, from single-family homes to housing blocks, from educational buildings and campuses to facilities for the arts and culture. Steven Holl Architects is a single architectural practice with two locations, in New York and Beijing and a staff of about 40 people led by architect Steven Holl and senior partners Chris McVoy, Noah Yaffe and Roberto Bannura.
In accordance with the now-familiar event format of the series, the screening of the docu-film “The Architects Series – A documentary on: Steven Holl” will be followed by a lecture entitled “Air/Light/Greenspace: Post-COVID” focusing on the key points of the studio’s philosophy in relation to the current situation and the changes resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The studio’s architecture is inspired by its founder’s vision, multidisciplinary approach and multicultural background.
Steven Holl views architecture as "an experience made up of time, light and materials", in which light plays an important role in underlining the materials used and helping us to understand the structure of solids and hollows and therefore the composition of space.
The ability to mould space and light with great sensibility is a quality critics have recognised in many of Steven Holl Architects’ projects. A number of the studio’s best-known and most recent projects have been presented in the pages of Floornature: the Linked Hybrid skyscraper in Beijing (2009), the Vanke Center or horizontal skyscraper in Shenzhen (2009), the ICA Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA (2018), and The REACH, an expansion on JFK Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC (2019).
The studio and Steven Holl have won numerous international awards, including, most recently: the Velux Daylight Award for Daylight in Architecture (2016), the Praemium Imperiale Award for Architecture (2014), the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects (2012), the RIBA Jencks Award (2010), the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award (2009), the Grande Médaille D'Or of the Académie D'Architecture in France (2001) and the Alvar Aalto Award (1998).
