Alice House 2 - Counter City installation in Zurich
ALICE (Atelier de la Conception de l’Espace),
Anna Positano - Op-Fot,

From 31 May to 15 June 2017, House 2 - Counter City, a 240-square-metre architectural installation, was created with wooden elements next to the Toni-Areal university and museum complex of Zurich.
House 2 is the result of an experimental format for collaborative design and construction, realised at a design laboratory of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. The laboratory, Alice (Atelier de la Conception de l’Espace), involved architectural students and researchers, led by Dieter Dietz

Over 200 first-year students worked at the erection of House 2. The prefabricated wooden components were produced in Lausanne and transported to Zurich in shipping containers.
The installation is not a homogeneous architecture but, rather, the result of different contributions, offering different approaches to space, also in view of the several social and cultural events it hosted. The installation became a metaphor of the city itself and of an appropriation of space occurring in different ways, according to processes questioning the quality of space and public life.
