Víctor Enrich’s representations for Rafael Uribe Uribe
Víctor Enrich,
Víctor Enrich,
After an experience at the Rafael Uribe Uribe slum neighbourhood of Bogotá, Víctor Enrich, a young Catalan artist, decided to apply for an art residency at the National University of Colombia.
His aim was to find a way to contribute to the reduction of isolation and anonymity suffered by the millions of slum-dwellers all around the world by using his own means, i.e. architectural and photographic representations. Enrich says that the slums are created autonomously and are destroyed out of complete indifference for those who live in them. Amongst others, Víctor Enrich is inspired by the ideas of Pritzker prize-winner Alejandro Aravena, who fights for the protection of spontaneous architecture that has a lot to teach.
Enrich’s basic idea is to move the great poles of culture and society towards the city outskirts, stopping the tradition of constructing important buildings in the city centres. So, he decided to transport Lloyd-Wright’s Guggenheim Museum to the middle of the Rafael Uribe Uribe neighbourhood. His objective? To show that these two worlds could live together and create a dialogue, despite the contrasts dividing them. In Víctor Enrich’s words, “If this kind of dialogue is possible at a town-planning level, it could also be possible at an economic and social level. We only need a minimum of political initiative”.
