- Landmark: RRA for National Touristroutes, Havøysund, Norway.
Havøysund is a small town in northern Norway, situated on the island of Havøy; since 1988, it has been connected to the mainland by a bridge. It is famous for its fishing and its nature.
Here, like right along the western Norwegian coastline, the Transport Department commissioned a scenic view that would improve usability of the landscape, in this case accompanying people from the island’s coastal road down to the sea.
The Norwegian firm Reiulf Ramstad Architects, which also designed the Trollstigen landmark (see: http://www.floornature.it/progetti-infrastrutture/progetto-rotte-turistiche-in-norvegia-trollstigen-6521/) therefore created a kind of walkway that gently meanders down from the roadside to the seaside. The inclination and winding path of the ramp were designed also to give easy access to the disabled, who would otherwise be denied direct access to the sea.
So the path, which aims to be sustainable in terms of energy and waste, slowly winds downwards and visitors can enjoy new perspectives, moments of meditation and renewed awareness.
In the words of the architects themselves: “The general notion was to create a human detail in the vastness of the landscape that is as timeless as the landscape itself and that brings attention to the relationship between the duration of experiences and the hugeness of the spatial circumstance.”
