Architecture in the woods: The Tree Snake Houses
Getting up cosy with nature without causing a negative impact? Yes, we can with the sustainable Tree Snake Houses by Portuguese architecture firm Rebelo Andrade in the Pedras Salgades Spa & Nature Park.

In the Pedras Salgades Spa & Nature Park in northern Portugal, architects Luís Rebelo de Andrade and Tiago Rebelo de Andrade had to come up with something that would fulfil the desire to live in nature without the human action negatively impacting the natural environment.

So, they designed The Tree Snake Houses: light structures built on stilts, which use the native material of the forest - timber. The timber shingles on the outside reference snake scales, and this metaphor is taken even further by the way the buildings seem to suddenly slither out of the forest.

Design solutions like insulation, water reuse, solar heat panels and LED light technology keep down the footprint of these homes even more, for a sustainable holiday.

The Tree Snake Houses are the first in a line of houses proposed by architecture firm, Rebelo Andrade involving modules that blend seamlessly into their surroundings making it possible to enjoy all aspects of nature, at the same time keeping down the negative impact.
