Architecture and Integration and Media Cities Appunto Verde Webinars by the Iris Ceramica Group and Resilient Communities - Biennale di Venezia
November 21 is the closing date of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, entitled "How will we live together?", at La Biennale di Venezia. The final week of the exhibition will also see the last two webinars in the series organised by The Plan magazine and promoted by the Iris Ceramica Group in the framework of Resilient Communities - the Italian Pavilion.
On November 16 "Architecture and Integration", the last of the four webinars focusing on the themes of the "UN Climate Change Conference", the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) closing today, November 12, in Glasgow, will be broadcast via live streaming.
The central theme of the webinar is the question “What is the best way to integrate structures that foster mitigation (a reduction of emissions) and adapt to climate change?”. The webinar will be introduced by architect Alessandro Melis, curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition at Biennale di Venezia, in relation to architecture, and professor Roberto Buizza, physicist/mathematician from Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa, in relation to aspects pertaining to environmental issues and the climate crisis. After this, the experts involved, coordinated by Nicola Leonardi of The Plan, will discuss two key concepts: the need to create “intrinsically ecological architecture” and the need for integration of structures for production of green electricity, wind and photovoltaic power, into our ecosystems. The key point is that architecture must not diminish the quality of the environment in which it is built, but fit harmoniously into its surroundings and become a part of a “continuum of landscape” that follows the laws of ecology.
On November 17, "Appunto Verde", the second and last event focusing on "media cities", will discuss and compare experiences of urban regeneration and development for the future. After water, the focus of the first event, this second webinar will look at projects focusing on the element and guiding resource of greenery.
The “media cities” presented as case studies are Aquileia, Bologna, Calenzano, Caserta, Montebello sul Sangro, Padua, Prato and Radicondoli. The experts involved will be introduced and coordinated by architects Alessandro Melis and Paolo Di Nardo. In this second event, resilience, viewed as "an approach, an application and a result to aim for ", will once again be the key theme of all the projects under examination. The focus will be on the resilient approach shared by all the projects discussed, independently of their scale and the type of experience, establishing relationships between different kinds of cities in the spirit of the "Resilience Culture" section of the Italian Pavilion.
