“The Architects Series – A documentary on: Barozzi Veiga” is the 32nd instalment of this event organized by THE PLAN magazine for Iris Ceramica Group. The webinar will take place on Tuesday, October 17, 6:30 pm (CEST) / 5:30 pm (UK BST) / 12:30 pm (US EDT), and will include the screening of a 30-minute video documentary followed by a lecture by Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga. Participants will need to register on the Iris Ceramica Group website. The webinar will be streamed live from the Iris Ceramica Group and Matimex’s Showroom in Barcelona.
 
The highly respected Barozzi Veiga architecture studio was founded in 2004 in Barcelona by Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga. The practice has always regarded excellence as a fundamental objective for all its projects. With its iconic cultural, urban, and educational buildings, the studio has won international acclaim.
 
Barozzi Veiga’s architectural vision encompasses both the public and private sectors. Marked by meticulous skill and thoughtful design, their projects captivate people around the world. The Ribera del Duero headquarters (2011), the Infanta Elena Auditorium in Águilas (2011), and the Szczecin Philharmonic Hall (2014) are just some of the creations of the Spanish team that have left an indelible mark on the architectural landscape.
 
With a strong predilection for innovation, Barozzi Veiga is currently engaged in groundbreaking projects all over the world, including Spain, Belgium, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. A clear recognition of its expertise and architectural vision, the studio was commissioned to create the masterplan for the prestigious Art Institute of Chicago.
 
Barozzi Veiga’s design prowess has garnered widespread recognition, including numerous awards. Since its earliest days, the studio’s expertise has been confirmed by prestigious awards such as the Ajac Young Catalan Architect Award (2007), the Barbara Cappochin International Architecture Award (2011), the Gold Medal for Italian Architecture for Best First Work (2012), the Young Talent Award for Italian Architecture (2013), and the Design Vanguard Award (2014).
 
Barozzi Veiga’s work has also been recognized with prizes such as the International FAD Opinion Award and the Life in Architecture Award. The Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur project won the RIBA Award for International Excellence in 2018. A year later, the firm’s remarkable achievements were recognized with the Chicago Atheneum International Award, the Best Architects 20 Award, and the AD Award Architects of the Year.
 
Barozzi Veiga’s projects have not only grabbed the attention of the architectural world but have also been the subject of important international exhibitions. In fact, since 2019 some of its designs and models have been part of the permanent collection of the renowned Centre Pompidou in Paris. The studio’s ideas and philosophy have been showcased by various exhibitions, in particular A Sentimental Monumentality, an installation presented at the Venice Biennale in 2016. On Continuity was a monographic exhibition that captivated audiences at Venice’s l'Istituto Universitario di Architettura in 2021. The firm’s extraordinary journey continued with exhibitions at the Politecnico di Milano (2022) and in Budweis at the House of Art in České Budějovice (2022).
 
Barozzi Veiga’s approach centers on collaboration and diversity, with its team made up of some 25 talented professionals from around the world. Their background and skills give the studio a broad perspective, while ensuring that projects are completed to the highest standards.

Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga
 
Born in 1976, Fabrizio Barozzi grew up in Rovereto, Italy. He studied architecture at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice, and furthered his studies at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Sevilla and the École d’Architecture de Paris La Villette. Barozzi taught at Barcelona International University of Catalonia (2007–09), was associate professor at the University of Girona (2009–16), and visiting professor at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (2013–15), at MIT in Cambridge (2016–18), and Cornell University in Ithaca (2020).
 
Alberto Veiga was born in 1973 and grew up in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He studied architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Navarra. He has taught at Barcelona International University of Catalonia (2007–10) and has been a visiting professor at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice (2014) and the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Navarra (2021).
