House on a Stream. Architecture BRIO, India.
Indian-based firm Architecture BRIO, whose principals are Robert Verrjit and Shefalo Balwani has designed a holiday retreat harmoniously woven into the landscape to which it opens up and closes as a response to the site’s features.

The design philosophy of Architecture BRIO is to advance cultural change and encourage the acceptance of large-scale sustainable solutions, starting from a continuously changing landscape.

With their House on a Stream, they have come up a with a home that integrates a real seasonal stream into the architectural concept.

The high-ceilinged kitchen is the composition’s fulcrum and the wings branching off this engage with the landscape. The perspective is enhanced through apertures that frame the view, the one constant in the project.

The daytime area includes the kitchen and living room and is physically separated from the bedroom by a bridge that crosses the stream, which has a pool running alongside it so the water remains constant during the different seasons.

The building does not seek to tune in with local traditions, but what it does offer is a new way of living according to the rhythm of nature, with sustainable use of materials and aiming to improve environmental performance without relinquishing the beauty of the architectural composition.
