Paris' Global Award promotes sustainable architecture

Though a historic city where envisioning sustainable building interventions is extremely complex, Paris promotes and sustains actions designed to make it an increasingly green urban area.
One example is the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture, created in 2006 to encourage the global debate on architecture by Jana Revedin, an architect, university professor and president of the LOCUS Foundation, with the assistance of a scientific committee and international experts. The award is now promoted by the LOCUS Foundation and the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine of Paris.

Each year, the Global Award recognizes five architects who are active in promoting sustainable development and have created an innovative, ecological approach whether in industrialized or emerging countries.
The objective of the Global Award is to create a group of architects of extraordinary talent, spread their approach and encourage an international exchange of experiences.

The twenty projects recognized since 2007 have recently been displayed as part of a photographic exhibit in Bologna and then Rome. Next stop Verona, where it will be on display starting Wednesday, May 4 pending the upcoming awards ceremony where five new architects will be recognized in the 2011 edition of the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture.

We had the great pleasure of being able to meet with and interview Jana Revedin, who told us the story of this important award, illustrating the objectives and dedication that have always surrounded this award.
