Global Award for Sustainable Architecture to Marco Casagrande Every year, the LOCUS Foundation rewards five architects who share the ethics of sustainable development and have constructed an innovative and holistic approach. For a while now, we have been showcasing the works of one of the 2015 Global Award winners - Finnish architect Marco Casagrande.

This year's theme of the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture is “Freedom of Thought”, a strong, clear message in honour of critical spirit for the sake of a necessary reform of architecture to better meet contemporary planning needs.

Livegreenblog has been showcasing the work of Marco Casagrande and his studio CLAB for some time now; in this case, he was selected for his multidisciplinary methodology and his theory of the “Third Generation City” as well as his biourbanism approach.

Marco Casagrande, 2013 winner of the European Prize for Architecture, and the International Committee of Architectural Critics 2013 main award based on "conceptual and artistic architecture", and vice-president of the International Society for Biourbanism, adopts an approach called “biourban acupuncture”, like the Taitung Academy to initiate transformation processes in the urban environment.

We'll be able to catch up with him during the TAB-Lab exhibition at the Tallinn Architecture Biennale TAB2015, where he will be presenting his work, Paracity.

The other winners include the Talca School of Architecture, Chile; Jan Gehl, Copenhagen; Rotor, Brussels as well as Spanish architect and self-builder, Santiago Cigureda with Recetas Urbanas, with whom we will be doing the September workshop “The City and the Water” together with DESTeC University of Pisa in Pietrasanta.
