The annual IAKS convention, held October 27 through 30 in Cologne, marked the 50th anniversary of the organisation's foundation by establishing the IAKS All Time Award, presented to architecture for sports that has had a major impact on subsequent constructions, such as the renovation of Berlin Olympic Stadium performed in the years 2000 through 2004 by architectural practice gmp.

The IAKS All Time Award is a special award presented by IAKS (International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities) to projects and architects that have had a great impact on the development of architecture for sports and products for the construction of sports facilities.
The award was established to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the organisation's foundation. Award-winners in 2015 included the expansion of Berlin Olympic Stadium by gmp in the early 2000s in preparation for the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006.
The stadium is part of the Olympic Park, and the original structure was designed by Werner March for the 1936 Summer Olympics; it was partially covered over for the FIFA World Cup in 1974.
gmp worked on a stadium considered an important historical monument and transformed it into a modern multipurpose sporting facility that may also be used for other kinds of events. The design and construction of the roof is the most important element of gmp's project. The architects used a translucent membrane supported by a lightweight structure that contrasts with the solid historic stadium. After the Olympic Stadium in Berlino, gmp has worked on many other sports facilities all over the world, from South Africa to Brazil and from Poland to China.
