A greenhouse surrounded by vegetation from which to enjoy a fantastic view of the skyline of Milan: the new Terrazza Triennale restaurant designed by Paolo Brescia, Tommaso Principi and Andrea Casetto of OBR (Open Building Research) in partnership with Maddalena D’Alfonso is located on the panoramic terrace of the Palazzo dell'Arte – Triennale di Milano.
The new restaurant is a rectangular pavilion measuring 150 sqm made entirely of glass, composed of seven modular bays with a light steel frame that picks up on the rhythm of the arches in the historic building designed by Giovanni Muzio and restored by architect Alessandro Pedron.
The pavilion opens up completely on four sides and has a glass roof, but it is sheltered by a curtain that can be wound up on motor—driven rollers. Like a self-regulating bioclimatic greenhouse, it can be configured differently to suit the intensity of sunlight during the day or at different times of year, and depending on atmospheric conditions. In the evening, synchronised spotlights light up the curtain with video installations or make it a light source for the city.
