The Qatar Pavilion for Expo Milano 2015

A construction recalling the souq or traditional open-air market, with its arabesques and winding passages, is the concept behind the Qatar pavilion for Expo Milano 2015.

The Qatar Pavilion for Expo Milano 2015

Qatar presented its pavilion focusing on the theme “Sustainable planting: innovative solutions for food security” during the “Participants’ Weekend”, a series of events at which the participating nations can present themselves to the public and offer a taste of what visitors can expect to find in the pavilions under construction for Expo Milano 2015 through artistic performances, tastings and cultural events.
The Qatar pavilion’s structure recalls the traditional arabesques and winding passageways of an old-fashioned souq. The building will have a big central volume out of which a circular structure rises recalling the “Jefeer”, a traditional woven basket for carrying food. The weaving is in turn a symbol, representing the interweaving of the local dimension with global innovation in the country.
Hanging gardens and innovative technologies will complete the pavilion, offering the public opportunities to get involved in interactive experiences focusing on responsible use of water and of the earth’s resources.
