Koolhaas’s Biennale and architecture fundamentals

For the 14th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2014 Biennale in Venice, Dutch archistar Rem Koolhaas has identified the zero point of contemporary architecture, transforming the central pavilion in the Giardini into a living encyclopaedia.

Rethinking architecture, he says, is possible if we start with the elements we all identify as the fundamentals of design: doors, windows, staircases, walls, façades, fireplaces, balconies, etc.: elements man has always worked with and on which we should continue to focus our studies today.

In the context of study of the most innovative façades, a solution was presented which uses eco-active, antibacterial and anti-pollutant ACTIVE Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic™.
Active ceramic tiles use titanium dioxide to perform an antibacterial, anti-pollutant and self-cleaning action on indoor and outdoor floor and wall tiles.
ACTIVE Ceramic high-tech tiles are presented by MAQLA-adiu Architect on the basis of an idea by architect Emilio Liobat.
