Bernard Tschumi Architects ANIMA Cultural Centre
Architect Bernard Tschumi has finished his first design for Italy, the ANIMA cultural centre to be built by 2017 in Grottammare in the province of Ascoli Piceno to host and encourage various forms of artistic, creative and productive expression in the area.
The centre will be located on the outskirts of the town of Grottamare, between the hills and the sea, and will look like a perfect rectangular shelter, a fortress of culture with highly permeable façades.
Made of finely worked concrete, the façades mediate between the interior and the land around it, with openings of various kinds set inside them.
Visitors entering the building find themselves in a space which is both indoors and outdoors at the same time.
The main hall will be in the centre of the building, contained in a parallelepiped rotated with respect to the construction of the wrapper: a solution permitting creation of a space which may be configured to suit the needs of the moment, rotated to form 4 courtyards. Around the hall will be workshops, offices and accessory spaces, and a spectacular system will link the different spaces.
