tamassociati Port Sudan Paediatric Centre - Sudan

tamassociati has won three international awards for its projects built in Sudan for the Italian NGO Emergency. The Aga Khan Award and the Curry Stone Design Prize, which we have already discussed in Floornature, for Salam Heart Surgery Centre in Khartoum, and the Giancarlo IUS Gold Medal for Port Sudan Paediatric Centre.

The "Giancarlo Ius" Gold Medal, presented at the Barbara Cappochin International Architecture Biennial, is presented to an innovative architectural project which is also sustainable in terms of energy conservation and use of renewable energy sources.
We are particularly proud of this prize because Emergency’s Paediatric Centre is built with Fiandre’s Active porcelain floor tiles.

The judges noted that the architects managed to ensure a high level of comfort in the facility using simple, traditional, inexpensive technologies. tamassociati’s project is an example of ethical, cultural and technical responsibility, a practical demonstration of the essential role architecture can play in responding to the needs of people and communities.
