Polyanna Paraskeva, Sandcastle, Messinia
In the Costa Navarino hotel complex in Messinia, Polyanna Paraskeva & Associates designed special spaces for children aged 5 to 12 which bring to mind a huge "sandcastle".

The building is shaped like a spiral rising gradually out of the earth, with a main volume whose colours and shape recall the "sandcastle" it is named after connected to smaller wooden constructions.

The architects worked with archetypal forms which give the observer the impression of being in a construction made by children.

The architects designed the interiors on a child-sized human scale. Public and private spaces blend into one another to create a strong sense of community. The furnishings are made out of ecological sustainable materials in bright colours that invite children to play and explore.
