Conclusus: a photographic study by Fabio Candido

Fabio Candido, young Italian architect and co-founder of Sundaymorning studio, visited Zamora, home to the Junta de Castilla y Leòn designed by Alberto Campo Baeza, where he was inspired to conduct a detailed photographic study of the relationship between architecture and its context, between client and circumstances.
In his photographs of the work of Campo Baeza, conceived as a hortus conclusus where there is a direct relationship between interior and exterior, Fabio Candido expresses his suspicions as to the true relationship between citizenship and this work of architecture.
As an architect who is also a photographer of architecture, Fabio Candido openly grasps the impalpable gap that exists between the architecture of an institution which is not very popular with citizens and the community itself.
He reveals how, in his opinion, the views through openings in the fence are not enough to make up for the lack of dialogue between the citizens who ought to inhabit the building and the building itself.
This detachment not only gives Fabio Candido’s study its title, “Conclusus”, but, as the photographer writes, emphasises the fact that a client who has been cut off from society corresponds to a building which is isolated from its context, however expertly integrated in terms of urban form”.
His study of the separation between man and architecture is not intended to criticise the status quo but to encourage understanding, through the power of black and white images without words, the subtle sense of unease that the Fabio Candido’s camera perceives and captures.
