Up-and-coming Mexican architect, Jesús Dávila designed his grandparents’ house, adopting an approach that combines the necessary practical functions with a warm, contemporary feel

Grandparents’ house by Jesús Dávila arquitectos

It’s always an arduous task for architects to design a home for themselves or for their family. And it becomes even tougher when we’re talking about ailing, senior citizen grandparents, whose home must meet their needs. Up-and-coming Mexican architect, Jesús Dávila successfully completed this enterprise.
The small site accommodates a 73-square metre house that not only engages with the outside, thus extending the interiors, but also offers all the comforts and access required for the two elderly occupants, on a single level.
Jesús Dávila divided the house into night and day zones, with a bedroom, walk-in robe and bathroom in one area, and living room, dining room, kitchen and guest bathroom in the other.
Natural light streams in through two large windows in the bedroom and the kitchen and spreads through the other rooms, creating a calm, relaxed atmosphere
The simple, streamlined exterior harmonises with the functional interior and reflects the contemporary language of the architecture. This project by Jesús Dávila is proof that the age of the occupants doesn’t count when it comes to comfortable, ultramodern spaces.
