Four winners of the European Religious Architecture Prize

There are four joint winners of the European Religious Architecture Prize organised by the Frate Sole Foundation. This biennale award is reserved for Christian churches created by young graduates.



Four winners of the European Religious Architecture Prize

The Frate Sole Foundation, Pavia, promoter of the biennial International Religious Architecture Prizewon in 2016 by Rafael Moneo, also sponsors the European Religious Architecture Prize. This is awarded every two years to designs for Christian churches as part of a graduate, master or doctoral thesis. In the 2017 edition the jury has chosen four joint winners who will receive the award on 4th October 2017.

Here are the four winning designs:

“Hermitage. Prayer Enclave in Suchedniów” by Irmina Niewczas is the design for a hermitage in red stone in an abandoned quarry in Suchedniów, Poland.

“ The San Vito Parochial Complex, Taranto” by Lucilla Di Paolo, replaces the existing parochial structure with a building designed to meet the needs of the community.

“The Rothenfels Castle and the form of a holy building: Rudolf Schwarz and Romano Guardini”, by a group made up of Giulia Drago, Federica Ingegno, Roberta Laera, Valentina Lazzaro and Simona L’Erario, is the project for the construction of a new church based on a study of a work by architect Rudolf Schwarz at Rothenfels Castle.

“A new orthodox church for the Yzmaylovo district in Moscow” by Stefano Campanini, is the only winning design dedicated to an orthodox church in a highly urbanised area.
