Urban Movement Design wins the YAP MAXXI 2012

Every year MAXXI in Rome and MoMA in New York host YAP, Young Architects Program, offering an opportunity to design a temporary space to host summer events in the MAXXI plaza in Rome or the courtyard of MoMA PS1 in New York. For the first time, the 2012 competition also includes another cultural institution: Constructo in Santiago, Chile.

The winning projects are Wendy by HWKN (Matthias Hollwich and Marc Kushner, New York) for MoMA PS1 and UNIRE/UNITE by Urban Movement Design for the plaza outside Zaha Hadid?s museum in Rome.

Urban Movement Design?s project is a strip of wood and grass made of natural and recycled materials, a project the architects themselves describe as "inclusive and playful", with sinuous shapes and natural and recycled materials inviting people to enjoy the space sustainably, as a shared experience open to all.

The new installations will be opened in the month of June, when an exhibition will present the 15 finalists in the competition for the three institutions.
