The Grand Théâtre de Rabat designed by
Zaha Hadid will be built by the river in the Bouregreg valley. This 6000 hectare area is in the geographic centre between the twin cities of
Rabat and
Salè, important focuses of urban and architectural development. The new building will have 47,000 square metres of floor space built on a 27,000 square metre lot, and will include a big theatre with more than 2000 seats, a smaller theatre with 520 seats, creative studios, service areas and an
outdoor amphitheatre for 7000. The river’s natural winding course is incorporated in the design: its
dynamism forms part of the design of the park and generates the amphitheatre spaces and the landscaping of the grounds. The
Grand Théâtre looks like a fluid sculpture intended to accompany visitors in an uninterrupted visual experience of landscape and architecture.
