This 20 billion dollar development plan includes residential buildings, offices, shops, schools, cultural institutions and infrastructures: 3.1 million square metres, completely surrounded by greenery.
Libeskind came with the plan for the Yongsan International Business District with ARUP and Martha Schwartz Inc.
"The idea is to create a 21st century destination that is at once transformative, vibrant, sustainable and diverse," said Libeskind during the project presentation. He added: "I wanted to make each form, each place, each neighbourhood as varied and distinctive as possible. The plan, and each building within it, should reflect the vertical and cultural complexity of the heart of Seoul."
Other competition finalists included Asymptote, Foster+Partners, Jerde Partnership and Skidmore Owings & Merrill.
