'Bringing the life of the city into an architectural space' is Daniel Libeskind's goal in his innovative WESTside project in Berne.

WESTside, Daniel Libeskind<br>Berne, Switzerland, 2005 It offers a route that is sometimes dynamic, sometimes contemplative, with a multitude of different views offering a variety of perspectives and atmospheres evoking grandiosity and intimacy. WESTside is a vision come true, an opportunity to see architecture that is real, not conceptual, and the key element in the most ambitious architectural project in the Berne area.
Traffic routes are designed to make the site easy to access and use. There will be a train station, special bus lines and preferential public roads so as not to affect local traffic.
The project is based on very strict principles of bio-architecture, following guidelines for sustainable development and environ mental compatibility. It is heated with geothermic energy, and energy efficiency is further improved with integration of technologies relying on renewable sources.
The well-tended profile of the complex responds to today¿s demand for architecture which is significant, ethical and functional and fits into its environment, relating to its context and responding to the needs of the people who use it.
