The crowdfunding campaign for Emanuele Piccardo’s short film "La Balena nel bosco" has begun. The initiative is one of the cultural events focusing on the work of architect Vittorio Giorgini in view of the creation of an art and architecture park”.
In the late fifties and early sixties architect Vittorio Giorgini (1926-2010) built a number of constructions on a site where a lot of plants grow by the sea at the northern end of the Gulf of Baratti, Piombino. These were the architect’s own summer home, "Casa Esagono", and the former Casa Saldarini (now Casa Sgorbini), known as "La Balena", The Whale. In the same spirit as the buildings, and attributable to the same study of form and technique, he also built two outdoor sculptures made of metal mesh and concrete in the garden of Casa Esagono. The zoomorphic sculptures were designed to create surfaces borrowed from nature that could serve a number of functions and prepare for the construction of Casa Saldarini.
A crowdfunding campaign began recently to fund the making of a short film entitled "La Balena nel bosco", The Whale in the Woods, directed by Emanuele Piccardo, focusing specifically on Casa Saldarini. The initiative is one of a series of cultural events organised to support the attempt of the association B.A.Co. (Baratti Architettura e arte Contemporanea) - Vittorio Giorgini Archives, in partnership with the region of Tuscany, to create an art and architecture park” on the site of Casa Esagono and La Balena. The park is to safeguard and promote the works of architect Vittorio Giorgini, a unique specimen of contemporary architecture.
