UNStudio completes the Gallery Centercity
In the Gallery Centercity Department Store project, the architects of UNStudio began by analysing the behaviour typical of people who use big shopping centres, especially in southeast Asia. The building?s outer appearance, a façade with two layers made up with vertical risers, does not allow us to determine how many levels it has inside. Inside, it is a stratified space, to be explored, unveiled along the routes on which the shops are distributed, arranged according to a spiral model with areas converging on a central void. By day the outer cladding of glass and linear risers reflects the light of the sun, while by night it is lit up with soft colours and computer animations recalling the images and symbols typical of department stores, fashion and art.
