Turin Civic Library
Mario Bellini

Mario Bellini,

Steel, Glass,

It will be opened in 2009, and it will cost 220 million euros: Turin's new civic library could become a new symbol for the city, based on the model of the great libraries of Paris, the Hague and New York.

Turin Civic Library <br>Mario Bellini The theatre area and the library will be linked by a big gallery which will also be the only point of access to the city. This choice confirms the urban character of the entire project, forming a typically urban passageway and meeting place.
The library will have over 900 reading stations and about 500 underground parking spots and will have a gross floor space of 38 thousand square metres.
Bellini's project demonstrates that Italy is reinventing the library, in both architectural and functional terms, as a multi-purpose place built to high tech criteria, a space serving citizens and a building of great architectural value.
