Triennale Milano the best European architecture

The archives of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation in Barcelona are an essential source of information for reconstructing the past 25 years of architecture in Europe. Almost 3000 architectural projects have been submitted to the jury over the award’s 25 years of history. Made in Europe 1988-2013 is an exhibition open at Triennale di Milano until January 8, 2017 proposing a voyage of discovery through architectural projects built in Europe between 1988 and 2013 through 150 selected models and an opportunity to view all the proposals filed in the Foundation’s archives, plus video interviews with winners of the Mies Van der Rohe Prize and a section focusing on the today’s emerging architects.
In connection with Made in Europe 1988-2013, another exhibition opened on November 4 which is dedicated to the Mies van der Rohe Award, the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture. This biennial award was instituted by the European Commission and Fundació Mies van der Rohe to reward excellence in architecture and underline the contribution made by European professionals to development of new ideas and technologies and to "better understanding the cultural role of architecture in construction of our cities".
A special mention is awarded to emerging architects, providing them with essential support in the early stages of their career. The 2015 Prize went to studio Barozzi/Veiga for Szczecin Philharmonic in Poland, while the special mention was presented to Jonathan Arnabat, Jordi Ayala-Bril, Aitor Fuentes, Igor Urdampilleta of studio ARQUITECTURA-G for Casa Luz in Cillero, Spain.
