British designer Tom Dixon, director of Design Research Studio, designed the interior of the restaurant at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. The idea behind the project was re-establishing real and ideal contact with the Royal Academy and its history.
The entire dining area was divided into zones, each inspired by a specific theme: an architect or artist linked with the Academy, including John Soane and J.M.W. Turner. One glass and metal dividing wall frames a series of sculptures and busts from the Academy’s permanent collection dating back to 1897, never before exhibited in public. The new bar is a key element of the restaurant, a big sculptural object made of lava and handmade glass bricks and embellished with hanging glass lights.
