Toyo Ito,

Tokyo, Japan,

Offices, Store,

A pattern of trees growing upwards, crossing over one another and interacting continuously: this is the new Tod's building in Tokyo, designed by Toyo Ito for the well-known shoe and bag maker.

Tokyo. New Tod's building<br> Toyo Ito. 2004 The building in the elegant Omotesando district has seven floors. The lower floors are boutique space, while the central and upper floors house administrative and commercial offices; the top two floors are used for conferences and events and as a roof garden.
Tod's invested 80 million euros in the new building, which will be an important presence with a strong impact on the Japanese market.
The site, with a surface area of over 500 thousand square metres, is L-shaped and surrounded by a wall reproducing the image of zelkova trees. What stands out about the building is its reinforced concrete exterior, which not only forms a "wrapper" but aesthetically defines the building and its design.
