The Foster + Partnersarchitecture studio has designed the new building for the Monaco Yacht Club, which has recently been inaugurated. The construction, built according to the highest standards in sustainable design, celebrates sailing and was created on reclaimed land to the East of the port.
The architects have designed a series of outdoor terraces where guests can watch sailing or racing competitions in the city, like the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The terraces, shaded with retractable canvases, convey the image of a vessel moored in the port.
The entrance to the building is a glass courtyard with a wide view over the port, with the ground floor reserved for stores and public spaces. The first floor is home to rooms for Yacht Club members and the upper floors are destined for events. Architect Foster has called the project the microcosm of a city, with schools, parks, offices and restaurants linked by a circulation system. A set of public, private, social and functional spaces that become the continuation of the city of Monaco.
