The most breathtaking area of the new institute is the media center: located in the upper block, and seeming as though it has been extruded from the overhang towards the sea.
It juts out, overhangs, projects like a spyglass over the blue expanse of the sea, towards which it faces with a totally glazed wall that frames the sea from above. Like a telescope, like an eye. The center is equipped with computers on which it is possible to find information on planned exhibitions, on the artists that are on show and on ICA activity.
The first work completed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in the United States, the ICA was exhibited at the 8th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice (2002). It has already received several prizes, including the AIA Honor Award 2007.
