A new award for the Paediatric Centre in Port Sudan designed by Tamassociati for the Italian NGO Emergency.
The panel of judges at the 11th Fassa Bortolo International Prize For Sustainable Architecture, chaired by architect Thomas Herzog, awarded Tamassociati an honourable mention for the Port Sudan project.
The architects adopted simple architectural solutions, resorting to use of local building materials and technologies to solve the problems arising from the area’s difficult climatic conditions and create a healthy environment for the well-being of patients and medical workers alike.
The paediatric centre, completed in 2012, has won a number of prestigious international awards, including the Curry Stone Design Prize, "Giancarlo Ius" Gold Medal (awarded at Barbara Cappochin International Architecture Biennial) and the Zumtobel Group Award in the Building category.
The Paediatric Centre in Port Sudan was one of the projects featured at the meeting entitled “Tamassociati x Emergency- Architecture as a tool for treatment”, organised by FAB Architectural Bureau Milano and the Floornature.com team and held on June 19 at FAB in Via Solferino 40, Milan.
