The first Cornelia Hahn Oberlander International Landscape Architecture Prize

The American Cultural Landscape Foundation, or TCLF, has announced the first winner of the new biennial Oberlander Prize, named after the late landscape architect Cornelia Hahn Oberlander and bestowed on a recipient who is "exceptionally talented, creative, courageous, and visionary”. The first winner is Julie Bargmann.

Empathy Park by studio audal for the Seoul International Garden Festival

Quentin Aubry and Zeger Dalenberg’s Studio audal designed Empathy Park in Seoul, South Korea: a park for everyone, from insects to animals and various categories of people. The installation was created for the Seoul International Garden Festival with the Korean landscape architects of Timperley Garden.

Powerhouse Company brings nature into the city with HOLT

HOLT, a project by architectural practices Powerhouse Company, Houben/Van Mierlo, and Vector-i with landscape design studio DELVA, has won the competition to build a new green, healthy neighbourhood in Groningen. The project involves construction of new residential buildings, offices and other public spaces, including a new park. The 320 residences will be built with an urban density permitting an inclusive relationship with nature.

A park in the forest in Guangming, China

Forest Sports Park in Guangming, China is a project by three studios, LOLA Landscape Architects, Taller architects and Land and Civilization Compositions. Now that the first phase in construction of the 600-hectare park nears completion, it will become an important attraction in Guangming Big Bay.

Power Plant Forest, planting forests to fight pollution

The Power Plant Forest initiative in the city of Jounieh, 20 km north of Beirut in Lebanon, driven by the architecture firm theOtherDada, aims to fight the air pollution in the area around the Zouk Mosbeh power plant. The people involved are doing this by planting a forest on a highly visible site as a sign of change.

Powerhouse Company works in collaboration with SHoP Architects, Office Winhov, Mecanoo and Crimson on a new masterplan for Rijnhaven, Rotterdam

Powerhouse Company, in collaboration with RED Company, presented the new masterplan for Rotterdam’s Rijnhaven, one of the oldest ports on the southern shore of the Nieuwe Maas. The project involves conversion of the Codrico factory, known for its industrial history and status as a landmark on the Rotterdam skyline, above all for the big cube on its roof that lights up bright green at night. Powerhouse Company’s masterplan celebrates the area’s industrial heritage while embracing the future with new buildings and better use of existing constructions. Major architectural studios such as Mecanoo, SHoP Architects, Office Winhov and Crimson Architectural Historians are involved in the design of the buildings in the masterplan.

The winners of the 2020 Young Talent Architecture Award

Regeneration and renaturalisation, redrawing the landscape with a focus on local communities and water management are the themes emerging in the projects that have won the 2020 Young Talent Architecture Award and its Asian edition, announced on October 5. The prizes for the architects of the future are an integral part of the Mies van der Rohe Award, the European Union award for contemporary architecture.
