The Garden Café designed by Steyn Studio for Bosjes, South Africa, in partnership with SquareOne, Meyers and Liam Mooney

London-based architecture firm Steyn Studio has recently completed an educational garden for the South African Bosjes Estate, which is in turn complemented by a café and gift shop. Over the course of the design and construction phases, Steyn Studio partnered with other professionals such as landscape architects SquareOne and designer Liam Mooney, long-time interior designer for the renowned estate on the Western Cape. The structure, made from dramatically curved oak beams, creates the impression of a woven fabric emerging from the ground, at once evoking the structures of both traditional Bushman homes and the Dutch colonial homes dating back to the end of the 17th century.

Steyn Studio’s Bosjes Chapel

Studio Steyn designed a chapel for the Bosjes Estate in South Africa drawing on a multitude of sources of inspiration ranging from the Bible to Dutch colonial architecture and the surrounding landscape, creating an apparently lightweight simple form and structure.
