Arolat: Raif Dinçkök Yalova Cultural Center

Raif Dinçkök Yalova cultural centre, near Istanbul, is a reflection on the theme of the façade in homage to Arabian architecture with its decorative gratings. Architect Emre Arolat interprets the façade as a skin which is entirely independent of the interior layout, and uses his material, Corten steel, to build a landmark in the landscape.

Erika car park in Malmö harbour area

The new Erika car park building near the harbour in Malmö, Sweden, reminds us that any building must be designed appropriately for the landscape and urban context in which it will be constructed. Metro Arkitekter AB has built an infrastructure in the city’s old industrial area reflecting on the theme of urban regeneration.

Souto de Moura: Paula Rêgo Museum

Never sensationalist, Eduardo Souto de Moura’s architecture is determined by choices linked with the landscape, the meaning of the work and the details of the materials. These intentions are clearly expressed in his plan for Paula Rêgo Museum in Cascais, with its red cement, glass permitting contemplation of details and two pyramidal roofs making the building an architectural symbol in the landscape.

A new public school in Cartagena
