Kuma: GC Prostho Museum Research Center

Gri e Zucchi: Music Centre in Cervignano

The Music Centre which opened on May 3, 2011 in Cervignano del Friuli (Udine) is the result of functional recovery of a former bus parking garage which had been unused for years. The original materials interact with the materials of contemporary architecture, confirming the site’s industrial vocation and transforming it into a cultural project.

Aldrete: shelters on the Ruta del Peregrino

Architectural projects funded by the Secretaria de Turismo del Estado de Jalisco in Mexico for the Virgin of the Rosary Pilgrimage Route include shelters designed by Luis Aldrete in Estanzuela and Atenguillo which are based on the principles of standardisation but differ according to their location and fit naturally into their surroundings thanks to the clay colour of the prefabricated blocks.

TAO: Museum of Handcraft Paper

To design the Museum of Handcraft Paper, a building preserving the memories of the artisan community in the village of Xinzhuang in southwest China, architect Hua Li of Trace Architecture Office (TAO) studied not only local building techniques but the traditional way of working with paper, and used both in a work symbolising the culture it showcases.

Cherubino Gambardella: Liz Gallery shopping centre

Cherubino Gambardella has designed a bold new shopping centre for the Benevento area: a major work of contemporary architecture which may be interpreted as an allusion to the local medieval military fortresses and the materials with which they are covered, with indoor flooring recalling streets and big paved areas outside the entrances. A form of sustainability that makes the most of the building’s location.

J. Mayer H.: Metropol Parasol in Seville

Seville has a new landmark: J. Mayer’s Metropol Parasol, a laminated timber construction intended to revitalise the Plaza de la Encarnacion in the city centre. Functioning as a roof covering the entire plaza, it is in actual fact a complex on four levels containing shops and providing an urban viewpoint.

Libeskind: Dresden Museum of Military History

The renovated Dresden Museum of Military History is now Germany’s biggest museum. With about 20,000 square metres of exhibition space, it is Daniel Libeskind’s last deconstructivist building. A synthesis of sculpture and architecture, it is a huge arrow wedged into history, a volume without orientation perforating a building, generating intertwined paths.
