David Chipperfield Architects completed Morland Mixité Capitale in Paris

The former Préfecture de Paris, the building that housed the city administration for years, has undergone a major renovation completed by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin. Originally completed around 1960 by architect Albert Laprade, the large scale of the building made it appear closed off and inaccessible. The project conceived by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin, instead, revitalised and transformed the complex into the new "Morland Mixité Capitale" as part of the "Réinventer Paris" programme.

David Chipperfield Architects Procuratie Vecchie Venice

The Procuratie Vecchie in Venice were recently opened to the public for the first time, five hundred years after their construction. Built in the sixteenth century to house the public attorneys of San Marco, the Procuratie Vecchie have undergone a complex restoration project under David Chipperfield Architects’ Milan office to allow them to continue playing a social role: the third floor of the building is home to The Human Safety Net, a foundation established by Generali to help vulnerable people develop their potential.

The finalists for the RIBA International Prize 2021

It’s time for the prestigious biennial award presented by the Royal Institute of British Architects to built projects all over the world: the three finalists in the 2021 edition were announced on November 16. The projects competing for the RIBA International Prize 2021 are Friendship Hospital in Satkhira, Bangladesh, by Kashef Chowdhury/URBANA; James-Simon-Galerie in Berlin, Germany, by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin; and Lille Langebro cycling and pedestrian bridge in Copenhagen, Denmark, by WilkinsonEyre and Urban Agency.

16 projects selected for the RIBA International Awards for Excellence 2021

A major modern art museum in Shanghai and a new entrance building and visitor centre to the Museum Island in Berlin, a pedestrian and cycle bridge through the heart of Copenhagen, a beautiful artists’ home in Sri Lanka, a new hospital where the healing power of nature becomes a central element: these are just a few of the sixteen architectures selected for the RIBA International Awards for Excellence 2021, the important biennial awards handed out by the Royal Institute of British Architects. In November, the winner of the RIBA International Prize 2021 will be selected from these sixteen finalist projects.

David Chipperfield Architects refurbishes the Neue Nationalgalerie designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

The Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, an icon of the Modern Movement designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe has been restored by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin. It is the last project, as well as the only building designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in Europe after emigrating to the USA. A virtual ceremony was held on April 29 to inaugurate the refurbished building, while the museum is set to reopen its doors to the public in August 2021.

David Chipperfield Architects’ London studio recently completed a residential construction at 11-19 Jane Street, New York. The six-storey red brick building includes two duplex townhouses, apartments and a penthouse with a roof garden, in a project inspired by the architecture of Greenwich Village that reinforces the identity of this historic neighbourhood.

Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin visible in its revamped charm

Berliners have been gifted a lovely end-of-year surprise. The Neue Nationalgalerie, first designed by Mies van der Rohe, is slated to reopen to the general public in August 2021 after years of restoration work by David Chipperfield Architects, and the swathes of fabric protecting this icon of modern architecture have finally been removed.
