Powerhouse Company designs Loop of Wisdom, a new iconic project for Chengdu

The Powerhouse Company architecture studio has designed a technology museum and reception centre for a new neighbourhood in Chengdu, the old Chinese city and capital of the Sichuan province. The project immediately became an important point of reference, especially for the iconic structure enclosing the area, a circular trail in the shape of a long red ribbon that follows the natural hills characterising the location, inviting people to explore it.

Piuarch designs Cascina Sella Nuova refurbishment project in Milan

The project designed by Piuarch and Silvia Passerini’s studio won the public tender launched by Milan’s local administration for the refurbishment of Cascina Sella Nuova. This ancient rural structure, built in the 15th century and located just outside the city, was in a severe state of disrepair. The complex will be restored according to sustainable and green principles and it will include housing, common spaces, experimental and urban gardens.

Richard Rogers leaves Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners after 40 years of architecture

A few weeks after his 87th birthday, architect Richard Rogers retired from the board of directors of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the practice he founded more than 40 years ago; within the next 2 years his name will be removed from the name of the studio. Thus ends the career of the famous architect who worked on projects such as the Centre Pompidou (with Renzo Piano and Gianfranco Franchini) in Paris, Lloyds of London, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the Millennium Dome or O2, also in London, a large tensile structure on Greenwich peninsula.

David Chipperfield Architects design the Carmen Würth Forum in Künzelsau, Germany

On June 28, the "Carmen Würth Forum" cultural and congress centre opened its doors to the public. The complex was designed for the Adolf Würth firm in the town of Künzelsau, Germany, by the Berlin office of David Chipperfield Architects. The intervention that was recently concluded is a "second phase", an extension that includes a congress area and an art museum which completes the concert and event halls inaugurated in 2017 and also designed by the Berlin-based David Chipperfield Architects firm.

gmp completes Silk Road International Conference Center in Xi'an

The new conference center, designed by gmp architects practice, was completed at the end of July in Xi’an. More than 3100 years old, this ancient Chinese city is located at the easternmost point of the ancient Silk Road. The practice founded by architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners won the 2017 competition to design the conference center which, together with their design for a dedicated Silk Road exhibition center, form a trade and industry hub in the province of Shaanxi.

Alvisi Kirimoto Multi-purpose Civic Center, Childcare Center and Park, Rome

Work has begun in via Grotta Perfetta, Rome on the multi-purpose Civic Center, Library and Childcare Center for 60 children with outside green spaces, designed by Alvisi Kirimoto architects practice. Completion is scheduled for January 2023. The project by Alvisi Kirimoto architects studio won the two-stage international design competition "Meno è Più 4” (Less is More 4) organized by Rome’s municipal authority, in 2007.

Architecture and nature: 25 years of Emilio Ambasz’s ACROS centre in Fukuoka

The ACROS centre in Fukuoka recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its construction. The design, created by Argentinian architect Emilio Ambasz and considered a precursor to “green” architecture, is the result of a research project started forty years ago based on the idea of giving back to nature the land taken from it by the construction. An idea that has had a profound influence on subsequent projects which sought - and still seek - to establish a relationship of coexistence between architecture and nature.

"The Heart in Ikast", the new centre for culture and communication designed by C.F. Møller Architects in Ikast, Denmark, is one of the winners of the 2020 Civic Trust Awards. The prestigious British awards founded in 1959 acknowledges projects of the highest architectonic quality which have made a positive cultural, social and financial contribution to their local community and demonstrate commitment to sustainability and universal design principles.
