Quai 5160, Verdun’s new cultural centre designed by FABG of Canada
Award-winning Canadian architectural studio FABG has completed Quai 5160, a new cultural centre produced by conversion and expansion of the existing Guy-Gagnon arena in Montreal’s Verdun district. The centre includes a 360-seat theatre, an art gallery, a meeting room and a school of the circus arts, as well as all the necessary management offices. Quai 5160 is an elongated two-storey building clad in glass and white perforated aluminium, with windows over the riverbank and the adjacent park to encourage citizens to make use of these formerly contaminated areas.

Alpex, how to convert an old building into a cultural centre
In Scionzier, in the Rhone-Alps region, Atelier Archiplein planned an extension to convert an old factory into a cultural centre. The project is part of a wider-ranging masterplan intended to renew and revitalise the city’s heart.

Alvisi Kirimoto Camerino Academy of Music - Andrea Bocelli Foundation
Camerino Academy of Music opened in the fall of 2020 after only 150 days of construction work, a project promoted by the Andrea Bocelli Foundation as part of the reconstruction after the 2016 earthquake in the interior of central Italy. Alvisi Kirimoto completed the initial project by young architectural studio Harcome; the new project gives the structure a significant contemporary look, providing the town of Camerino with an academy of music with a bold architectural identity.

Miralles Tagliabue EMBT Le Pavillon of Romainville
The transformation of the new centre for cultural life in Romainville, a municipality in the metropolitan area of Paris, is now complete. The project by architect Benedetta Tagliabue and her studio Miralles Tagliabue EMBT in partnership with French studio Ilimelgo Architectes brings new life to the little Palais des Fêtes building, transforming the whole area into Le Pavillon, a cultural complex connected with the city, the new garden and the nearby forest.

MVRDV brings new life to the Pyramid of Tirana
Work has begun on the Pyramid of Tirana. The brutalist building originally built as a mausoleum celebrating dictator Hoxha, abandoned for many years, begins a new life as MVRDV transforms it into a multipurpose centre for youth and cultural life in the Albanian capital.

Atelier Brückner: Restoration of Stuttgart’s Wagenhallen
The Wagenhallen have become one of Stutgart’s most important event venues. Built as a locomotive warehouse in the late nineteenth century, they have been expanded and transformed over the years, and have now been renovated by Atelier Brückner as a cultural centre housing numerous artists’ studios.

449 Architectural projects submitted for the Mies van der Rohe Award
The list of 449 architectural projects submitted for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2022, located in 279 cities in 41 countries, was announced on February 2. 514 architectural practices compete for the European Union’s most important award for architecture, presented by the European Commission and Fundació Mies van der Rohe. For the first time, the current edition also includes works built in Armenia, Moldavia and Tunisia.
