Carlos Castanheira

Born in Lisbon, Carlos Castanheira (1957) is part of a generation of Portuguese architects considered the professional progeny of Alvaro Siza, with whom Castanheira worked for fourteen years and with whom he has collaborated on several occasions, including in recent years.

Castanheira: a house of cement and wood

The house designed by Carlos Castanheira on the Madalena coast in Portugal is made of rough cement, with the added value of details such as frames, roof and furniture made of wood. The large ground floor windows face south to establish an ongoing dialogue with the garden. The only decoration is provided by the textures of the materials.
